Wacker begins dispersible polymer powders plants expansion in South Korea
Germany-based Wacker Chemie has started the construction of a new spray dryer for dispersible polymer powders, with the intention to expand its existing site in Ulsan, South Korea.
The new spray dryer will have a total annual capacity of 80,000t and will help Wacker Chemie to expand its current dispersions and dispersible polymer powders production plants in Ulsan.
The company is also building a new reactor for dispersions based on vinyl acetate-ethylene copolymer (VAE), which are used as raw material for the spray dryer to produce dispersible polymer powders.
Around €60m will be invested in the expansion in total, which is expected to begin production by the first quarter of 2019.
Wacker executive board member Christian Hartel said: “Our existing production facilities in Ulsan provide the ideal setting for the expansion.
“With this new capacity, we will be able to support our customers right across Asia in a more targeted way by offering them products tailored to their specific requirements.”
In addition, the latest expansion is expected to help Wacker meet the increasing demand for its high-quality binders that are mainly used in the South Korean and South East Asian construction industry.

The expansion will also guarantee shorter delivery routes and times.

Currently, the Wacker dispersions and dispersible polymer powders are used in a variety of sectors, including construction, paints, coatings and adhesives.
